You know, half a year’s gone before you know it. As our tradition demands, every six months we look back on the time that lies behind us. What has happened so far? What have we experienced? Who have we met?

Find out now in our second half-year review 2019!

How was it after the trade fair marathon?

After a rapid start in 2019 – with six trade fairs and numerous fantastic meetups – things got a little bit quieter for us. But no less exciting! After exhibiting at the major trade fairs in the textile, logistics and industry sectors in the beginning of the year, we were no less busy in the second half.

Stadtwerke half marathon Bochum

We are happy about a premiere this year! No, not the participation at the Bochum Half Marathon. Because this run is already a tradition for us. But this year, we decided to run for roterkeil.net and have promptly achieved a great amount of money! Roterkeil.net supports both regional and national projects that fight child abuse and child prostitution. It particularly pleased us that both from the circle of our customers as well as our colleagues, the support was phenomenal. Putting on running shoes for the good cause proved once again: a partnership is the right way to go!

Summer party at the beach with bumperballs and BBQ

What can we say? Those who work hard, should also be able to celebrate from time to time – preferably surrounded by their loved ones. We at Setlog have the tradition – indeed, many traditions have been built up over the last 19 years – that we celebrate a summer party with our families.

Summer party of Setlog at Seaside-Beach

This year we were at Seaside Beach in Essen and had a lot of fun playing bumperball, archery, volleyball and of course enjoying a great BBQ. In a relaxed atmosphere, we’ve spend a nice day with our colleagues and their families.

Off to Anaheim, California for the CSCMP Edge

Those who can celebrate can, of course, also make a trade fair appearance happen. Although the first half of 2019 will be hard to beat when it comes to trade fairs and events, we did not stand still in the second half and organized a number of events.

For the first time, we exhibited together with the NRW Competence Network at CSCMP Edge. The CSCMP is one of the largest supply chain management networks and connects experts for logistics and supply chain management worldwide. Innovation, digitalization, automation and cooperation: this year’s conference had all of these topics. As one of the most important events in the global supply chain, it was a pleasure for us to be represented among numerous other innovative companies.

In addition to the CSCMP Edge, we were primarily in the United States to help our new customers implement OSCA. This year we were able to celebrate the Go Live of our customer Drive DeVilbiss. Drive is one of the fastest growing global manufacturers of medical devices. Not only do we support an important product, but we are also conquering an exciting new market.

To ensure a smooth implementation, both our software developers and our project managers were regularly on site, training the staff and ensuring a prompt Go Live.

The largest Meetup in the region

Mixed Reality Marketing, automated security tests in the DevOps world, the startupweek:Ruhr, frontend architecture for microservices or the IN subject LinkedIn – all these topics were represented in our Meetup community “Digital Innovation Ruhr”.

Thanks to the wonderful speakers and of course our great members, we were able to organize great Meetups in the entirety of 2019. Networking at these evenings is easy and we are very grateful that our members reward us for our efforts with numerous registrations and lively discussions. As part of the Digital Innovation Ruhr, we also organized a Coding Evening in cooperation with Foss-AG Dortmund for the very first time this year. We were very enthusiastic about the positive “endurance” of the participants: The holy halls of Setlog GmbH were only closed in the early hours of the next morning.

Digital Innovation Ruhr has recently become a real brand in the Ruhr Valley as well as the surrounding area. Last year, we were delighted to receive the title “Largest Meetup in the Ruhr Area”. Every week we get new members who can look forward to exciting topics ranging from IT, and marketing to the startup world. Now another honor was added to our badge: in the State of the European Tech Report, it was announced only last month that Bochum is ranked 15th among the hottest tech communities and hubs in Europe. These hubs were measured by those Meetups, who cracked the 1000 member mark in 2019.

We are very pleased to be contributing such a huge milestone to the innovation of the region.

Stay tuned for what’s waiting for us in 2020!

Conferences and Training

In order to be always up-to-date, we also go to various trainings and conferences with our teams. Our colleagues, who oversee the system administration, have been trained in the techniques of network security in Bonn and some of our developers have been in Hamburg and delved into the topic Spring + Spring Sec.

SEO Day Cologne

The marketing team also faced an important and very complex topic. The SEO-Day Cologne introduced the team to the subtleties of SEO, SEA and Analytics and schooled their implementation.

New Work and Organizational Development

As part of the infrastructure in the Ruhr area and as a driver of innovation in our region, it is very important for us to network well in this area. Only with a good network new things can be initiated and partnerships can glow.

Among others, part of this network is the IHK – Mittleres Ruhrgebiet. We are happy to be present at various events organized by them every year and also to be part of the former working groups – now PeerGroups.

As an employer that deals with the topic of New Work a lot and relies on its own employer branding, it is a pleasure for us to share our knowledge and achievements with others. This happened in the second half of the year at the New Work event “Ruhrfaktor”. Our marketing specialist Nora presented her work on the topic “The Power of Networking”.

She is also present at the regular meetings of the “PeerGroup Organization Development”, where she discusses the future of company management and development with other company representatives from the surrounding area.

December is a team month for us

In December, we took a meetup break. But first, we thanked all meetup and job fairs helpers in our company for their help and for the great and often spontaneous preparation work and support of our guests at the events.  At an evening of team bowling we celebrated a successful meetup year.
Of course, our “Rookies” got their own evening as well.

Rookie Event of Setlog at Beef and Burger Bochum

Every year we invite the new employees, who found their way to Setlog in the previous 12 months, to tell us about their start with us, to know what we can improve and simply to get to know each other even better. But we especially looked forward to our Christmas barbecue  as a whole team.

By the way, did you take a look yet at our Instagram Channel? There you will regularly find an exclusive insight into the world behind the scenes of Setlog. You can currently marvel at our Advent calendar every day in our stories!

A small outlook on 2020

Of course, the next big trade fair is already around the corner. We simply can’t leave it alone! Planning and coordination are already in full swing and we are looking forward to being co-exhibitors at the NRW stand once again – only this time at LogiMat in Stuttgart.

In addition to LogiMat, we are also planning another joint event with BVL in March. On the subject of “Logistics requirements from global procurement to urban omnichannels” we are gathering experts from supply chain and logistics in Bochum. There we will bring together business, politics, science and exciting start-ups to talk about the future of logistics.

Save the date now: March 26th, 2020!

We are looking forward to the start of a grandiose new decade with you.
